Welcome to Sawley

Our original nursery, established in 1997.
Nightingale Nursery Sawley is our original nursery, opening in 1997 and continuing to support children and families in the local community.
We are a family-owned and family-run group of nurseries, and our Sawley setting benefits from a highly experienced team. Our Area Manager has been with Nightingale since 1997, and several members of our team have been with us for more than 2 decades.
This continuity gives us a wealth of experience within the nursery and a strong understanding of children's development and early years practice.

Our rooms
Our four rooms provide age-appropriate care, learning and experiences as children develop from babies through to starting school.
Baby Room | Birth to 1 year
Our Baby Room is a calm, comfortable environment for our youngest children.
Located downstairs, the room has free-flow access to our garden, allowing babies to enjoy outdoor experiences when appropriate.
Our recently redesigned wraparound garden provides a safe outdoor environment for children to explore.
For babies, our priority is to ensure they feel safe, comfortable and well cared for. Practitioners get to know each child and their individual routines, needs and development. Our Baby Room staff are very experienced and knowledgable practioners who refresh their knowledge and undertsanding frequently through ongoing CPD opportunities.
We focus on the Prime Areas of Learning and Development — communication and language, physical development, and personal, social and emotional development — through play, interaction and everyday experiences.
Tots Room | 1 to 2 years
Our Tots Room provides an environment where children can develop their independence while continuing to build the foundations of their early development.
The room is downstairs and has free-flow access to the garden.
We continue to focus on the Prime Areas of Learning and Development, with plenty of opportunities for messy and sensory play.
Children can explore different materials, textures and experiences, make choices and develop their communication, physical skills and confidence through play.
Toddler Room | 2 to 3 years
Our Toddler Room is designed to encourage increasing independence and allow children to make choices about their play.
Resources are accessible at children's height, with low-level shelving and a range of open-ended resources that children can select and use in different ways.
Practitioners follow children's interests and use these to extend learning and introduce new experiences.
Children have access to outdoor play every day. Indoors, areas such as our home corner provide opportunities for imaginative play, communication and social interaction.
Preschool | 3 years to school
Our Preschool focuses on helping children develop the skills, confidence and independence they need for starting school.
We have strong professional relationships with local schools and a good understanding of the schools our children move on to. This helps us support children and families with the transition from nursery to school.
Our approach to school readiness includes developing:
  • Independence
  • Confidence
  • Resilience
  • Social interaction
  • Communication
  • Listening skills
  • The ability to work with others
  • A positive “can do” attitude
  • The confidence to keep trying when something is difficult
We want children to leave nursery ready to take their next step with confidence and the skills they need to adapt to school life.
Before and Aftrer School Club
We provide a before and after school service for children up to 8 years old who attend Sawley Infant School.

A language-rich environment
We place a strong emphasis on developing children's communication and language skills from the earliest age.
Our nursery provides a language-rich environment where children are encouraged to listen, communicate, develop new vocabulary and express their ideas.
We have a strong focus on developing a love of books and stories. Children have regular opportunities to share books with practitioners, listen to stories, talk about characters and events, and develop their understanding through books and conversation.
Songs, rhymes and repetition are also an important part of everyday life at nursery. These experiences help children develop their listening and attention skills, learn new words and sounds, and enjoy communicating with others.
Practitioners use everyday interactions, play and children's interests to introduce new language and extend children's conversations.
We want children to develop the confidence to communicate, ask questions, express themselves and enjoy sharing ideas with others.

Outdoor play and healthy living
Outdoor play is an important part of our approach to Healthy Living.
All children have access to outdoor play every day. We encourage children to be active, explore their environment and develop positive attitudes towards physical activity and being outdoors.
Our recently redesigned wraparound garden provides a range of opportunities for children to play, explore and be physically active throughout the day.

Experienced practitioners
Our long-standing team is one of the strengths of our Sawley nursery.
Our Area Manager has been with Nightingale Nurseries since 1997, and we have several practitioners who have been part of our nursery for decades.
We invest in our team through professional development, reflective practice and ongoing support and CPD. This helps ensure that practitioners continue to develop their knowledge and provide high-quality care and learning experiences for the children.

Supporting children's wellbeing
We know that children's emotional wellbeing is an important part of their development.
Our team supports children to develop positive relationships, confidence and resilience. We also have a Promoting Positive Behaviour Officer and Mental Health First Aider who provide additional support to children, families and staff where appropriate.

We want every child to be able to participate fully in nursery life.
Our team works closely with families to understand individual needs and, where appropriate, works with other professionals to provide additional support.
